A34. propagation along a wave guide
The purpose of this test is to verify whether waves propagating
along a wave guide are indeed trapped. The wave guide consists of a straight
shallow through a deeper area.
The axis of the shallow area is in N-S direction.
At the Southern boundary an incident wave field is assumed
which propagates from the Southern boundary in N direction.
The peak period is 10 s.
In the analytical solution the amplitude along the axis is constant.
Computed values for Hs along the axis are compared
with the analytical results.
4 cases are considered:
- Swan without diffraction with standard grid orientation
- Computation with diffraction on a standard grid, with enhanced smoothing
- Computation with diffraction on a standard grid, with moderate smoothing
- Computation with diffraction on a standard grid without smoothing
It is seen that the solutions, both with and without diffraction, show considerable error.
Apparently the model loses wave energy to the sides.
